Today was an interesting one. I spent all morning with Jason and then we went to see Shanti and Tyvon in Lakewood. We had a wonderful time until Wiley decided to try to eat Tyvon and Jamie's dog Dexter. Dexter is a baby Cairn Terrier and is one of the cutest puppies I have ever seen. Everything was going well initially and Dexter and Kaya were running around like crazy. We thought that Wiley would be okay since he was being very good just sitting and watching the activity. But the minute Tom let him loose, he ran after Dexter and picked him up in his mouth and shook him. Once we got Dexter outof Wiley's mouth, Dexter ran to a corner and shook until Chris was able to pick him up. He screamed for over a minute but we couldn't find any seriuos damage. However, after watching him for about 15 minutes, Jamie and Tyvon decided to take him to the emergency vet hospital nearby to have him checked out. Turns out he has a bruised lung and perhaps some internal bleeding so they are going to keep him for a couple of days. It sounds like Dexter will be okay but I feel so bad about it. Wiley and Kaya have been so good on this trip but it has been really hard on them with all of the moving around and acclimating to all the new places and people. It will be nice to spend some time in Lake City and then head home to Puerto Viejo and let the dogs adjust to their new home.
